Quebec Police Seize Stolen Vehicles in Montreal

Quebec provincial police have seized over 30 stolen vehicles and thousands of dollars in a recent crackdown on organized vehicle theft in the Montreal area. The operation, targeting a criminal gang exporting stolen vehicles, resulted in the recovery of more than $17,000 CAD and $35,000 USD in cash, along with several cellphones. This initiative is part of a broader effort, as the Montreal area has become a key transport hub for stolen vehicles, particularly those taken from the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Recent reports indicate a 36% drop in vehicle theft in Quebec during the first half of 2024, attributed to enhanced police collaboration and border patrols. The seized vehicles were part of a larger trend, with nearly 600 stolen cars found in shipping containers at Canada’s second-largest port from December 2023 to March 2024.
