Better Cotton Appoints Nick Weatherill CEO, Succeeds Alan McClay

Better Cotton, the world's largest cotton sustainability initiative, has appointed Nick Weatherill as its new CEO, succeeding Alan McClay, who led the organization for a decade before his departure in December 2024. Weatherill, formerly executive director of the International Cocoa Initiative and a consultant for organizations like the International Trade Centre, brings extensive experience in promoting sustainability and human rights within global supply chains. His appointment comes at a pivotal moment as Better Cotton recently launched a traceability solution in 2023 and transitioned to a certification scheme in early 2025, enhancing transparency and impact across the cotton industry. Both McClay and Weatherill will collaborate through June 2025 to ensure a smooth leadership transition, with Weatherill emphasizing the organization's vital role in improving cotton quality and the livelihoods of millions of farmers and workers worldwide.
