British Lawyer Dies from Methanol Poisoning in Laos

Simone White, a 28-year-old British lawyer from Orpington, tragically died after allegedly consuming drinks contaminated with methanol in Vang Vieng, Laos. Her mother, Sue White, undertook a harrowing 16-hour journey to reach her daughter, arriving just as Simone was taken into surgery. Tragically, Simone lost all brain function and passed away on November 21. On the night of the incident, she and her friends consumed six vodka shots provided by their hostel before their health deteriorated. Laotian authorities have detained several individuals in relation to the poisoning of Simone and five others. Sue White has issued a warning to travelers to be cautious with drinks, emphasizing that it could happen to anyone, regardless of their background.
