San Jose Man Arrested for 113 Retail Thefts

Johnny Pena, a 41-year-old man from San Jose, was arrested on October 28 for allegedly committing 113 retail thefts across various stores, including Home Depot and Target, since March. The San Jose Police Department's Organized Retail Theft Detail, funded by an $8.4 million grant from the California Board of State and Community Corrections, spearheaded the investigation that led to his arrest. Pena is accused of stealing merchandise valued at tens of thousands of dollars, demonstrating a blatant disregard for the law, as noted by Police Chief Paul Joseph. He is currently being held without bail at the Santa Clara County Main Jail and faces grand theft charges. Mayor Matt Mahan emphasized the negative impact of retail theft on the community, calling for more support for law enforcement to combat such crimes.
