Ram Receives Over 10,000 Orders for HEMI-Powered 2026 1500 in 24 Hours
Ram's announcement of the return of the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine for the 2026 Ram 1500 pickup has sparked strong consumer demand, with over 10,000 orders placed within the first 24 hours. The comeback of the V8, which produces 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque and is offered as a $1,200 upgrade on most models, addresses a sales decline that Ram experienced in 2024 after the engine's removal. Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis acknowledged the mistake of dropping the HEMI and highlighted the importance of offering customers a V8 option to retain loyalty. Alongside the engine's return, Ram introduced a new 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, positioning it as the best in the full-size truck segment. Despite the HEMI's power figures being lower than the inline-six Hurricane engine, the V8 option appeals to enthusiasts, featuring a “Symbol of Protest” badge and a GT Sports exhaust for a distinctive sound. Ram hopes that this strategic move will help it close the gap with competitors Ford and GM in truck sales.
