Manipur has imposed an indefinite curfew in Imphal East, Imphal West, and Thoubal districts, and suspended internet services in five districts in response to escalating ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The recent violence, which has resulted in at least 11 deaths since September 1, follows drone and rocket attacks allegedly by Kuki militants. Thousands of students have staged protests demanding the removal of key state officials, accusing them of failing to control the violence. Authorities cited the need to curb misinformation and hate speech as reasons for the internet blackout. Security forces have been deployed to manage the unrest, employing tear gas and other measures to disperse protesters.
