Ex-Arsenal Player Charged with Cannabis Smuggling

Former Arsenal striker Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been arrested and charged with attempting to smuggle £600,000 ($793,620) worth of cannabis through Stansted Airport. The 33-year-old, who now plays for Greenock Morton in Scotland, was detained by National Crime Agency (NCA) officers after 60kg of the drug was found in suitcases arriving from Bangkok on September 2. Emmanuel-Thomas has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear at Carlisle Magistrates' Court. Two women, aged 28 and 32, were also arrested in connection with the seizure. The NCA has issued warnings to travelers from countries like Thailand about severe penalties for drug smuggling, highlighting a recent surge in related arrests.
