60% NYC Jewish Voters Back Cuomo as Crime Concerns Drive Mayoral Race Shift
Recent polls indicate a significant consolidation of Jewish voter support behind former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral race, with Quinnipiac University data showing 60% of Jewish respondents favoring Cuomo compared to only 16% for Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani and 12% for Republican Curtis Sliwa. This shift follows Mayor Eric Adams's withdrawal from the race and contrasts earlier polls where Cuomo and Mamdani were more evenly matched among Jewish voters. Despite Cuomo's lead, half of Jewish voters hold an unfavorable view of him, while Mamdani faces a steep 75% unfavorable rating, largely due to his outspoken criticism of Israel. Crime ranks as the top issue for nearly half of Jewish voters, far outweighing concerns like affordable housing and schools. Citywide, Mamdani maintains a lead among likely voters, particularly younger demographics, but his support among Jewish and non-Hispanic white voters is substantially weaker, contributing to a narrowing margin over Cuomo. These dynamics highlight a volatile electorate with clear divisions along ethnic and age lines as the election approaches.
