Baltic States to Exit Russian Power Grid in 2025
Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have officially notified Russia and Belarus that they will exit the Soviet-era BRELL power grid on February 7, 2025, transitioning to the Continental Europe Synchronous Area two days later. This move, accelerated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, aims to enhance energy security and independence. Supported by EU funding of approximately 1.2 billion euros, the Baltic countries will gain the ability to independently control their frequency and integrate renewable energy sources. This marks a significant step towards severing energy ties with Moscow and ensuring a secure energy future.
