Indiana Man Convicted in 2015 Fatal Stabbing of Kentucky Boy Released Early
Ronald Exantus, the Indiana man convicted in the 2015 Versailles attack that killed 6-year-old Logan Tipton and injured his father and two sisters, was released early from prison Friday on parole after serving less than half of a 20-year sentence. In 2018 a jury found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity but guilty (mentally ill) on assault charges, and his concurrent sentences and credits made him eligible for early release. The Tipton family says justice has not been served, describing lasting trauma, threats, and fear for their safety — Dean Tipton said he lost the will to live and has vowed he would kill Exantus if they ever cross paths. Authorities say Exantus will remain under probation and parole supervision until his sentence ends and is expected to serve six months of parole in Florida. The release has reignited debate over the adequacy of sentences when defendants are found to have been in psychosis at the time of violent crimes and has left the family demanding harsher punishment.
