Newsham Station on Northumberland Line opens March 17

Newsham station on the Northumberland Line is set to open on Monday, March 17, following delays that postponed its launch since the line reopened in December. The station will facilitate a 21-minute journey to Newcastle, with peak-time return tickets priced at £4.80 available from March 10. Local officials, including Northumberland County Council leader Glen Sanderson, expressed pride in the project, highlighting its potential to boost passenger numbers and stimulate economic growth in the region. The Northumberland Line has already seen over 110,000 passenger journeys since its initial reopening, with 50,000 in the first month alone. Three additional stations, Bedlington, Blyth Bebside, and Northumberland Park, are expected to open throughout 2025. The project aims to enhance public transport connectivity and bring investment and job opportunities to the area.
