Ruth Chepngetich of Kenya has shattered the women's marathon world record at the Chicago Marathon, clocking 2:09:57 and surpassing the previous record of 2:11:53 set by Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa. This historic achievement makes her the first woman to finish a marathon in under 2 hours and 10 minutes. Chepngetich, a former world marathon champion, dedicated her victory to the late Kelvin Kiptum, who had also set a record in Chicago. She has now won the Chicago Marathon three times and is recognized for running on one of the fastest marathon courses globally, with four out of the five fastest women's times recorded there in the past six years. The men's race saw John Korir triumph with a time of 2:02:43, marking his first World Marathon Major title. Both races highlighted the exceptional talents emerging from Kenya's marathon scene.
