2024 African Nations Championship Postponed to August

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has postponed the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) from February to August, citing the need for more time to complete infrastructure in the host countries Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. Despite significant progress, CAF's technical experts advised that further improvements are necessary to meet the required standards. This decision, made just 18 days before the scheduled start, has disrupted teams' preparations, but has been welcomed by some clubs due to its beneficial impact on domestic league schedules. Kenyan officials have dismissed concerns about their infrastructure readiness as 'baseless,' expressing confidence in meeting requirements. The tournament, primarily for domestic-based players, is considered a precursor to the Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted by the same countries in 2027. CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in the eventual success of the tournament, appreciating the efforts of the host nations' leaders.
