Rickard Rakell of the Pittsburgh Penguins has been named as an injury replacement for William Karlsson on Team Sweden's roster for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off tournament. Karlsson is sidelined with a lower-body injury, prompting Rakell's inclusion. Rakell leads the Penguins with 23 goals and ranks second with 45 points in 53 games this season. The tournament, featuring NHL players and held from February 12 to 20 in Montreal and Boston, marks the first best-on-best international hockey competition since 2016. Sweden will compete against Canada, Finland, and the United States, with Rakell joining other notable Swedish players like Erik Karlsson and Victor Hedman. Rakell has previously won a gold medal with Sweden at the 2018 World Championship.
