Hong Kong Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony, Gala for 28th HKSAR Anniversary

Hong Kong marked the 28th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) with multiple ceremonies and celebrations on July 1, 2025. The official flag-raising ceremony at Golden Bauhinia Square featured the raising of the national and regional flags, a fly-past by Government Flying Service helicopters, and a maritime parade with fireboat water salutes, attended by Chief Executive John Lee, government officials, and representatives from various sectors. Universities like the University of Hong Kong reaffirmed their commitment to national development and academic excellence, with HKU recently rising to 11th place in the QS World University Rankings. Public celebrations included discounts at restaurants, free museum entries, and tram rides, reflecting a festive atmosphere across the city.
