Disney delays Avengers 5, 6 releases to December

Disney has postponed the release dates for the next two Marvel Studios Avengers films, with Avengers: Doomsday moving from May 1 to December 18, 2026, and Avengers: Secret Wars shifting from May 7, 2027, to December 17, 2027. Directed by the Russo brothers, the films are described as some of the biggest Marvel productions ever, and the delays are intended to allow more time to fully realize their ambitious scope. Avengers: Doomsday is currently in production and will feature Robert Downey Jr. as the villain Doctor Doom, alongside a large ensemble cast including Chris Hemsworth and Florence Pugh. Disney chose the December release window strategically, building on the success of previous holiday releases such as Spider-Man: No Way Home. In addition to the Avengers delays, Disney has set new release dates for other films from 20th Century Studios: Ridley Scott's post-apocalyptic thriller The Dog Stars will premiere on March 27, 2026, and The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for May 1, 2026. An IMAX/3D re-release of Avatar: The Way of Water is planned for October 3, 2025, ahead of the upcoming Avatar: Fire and Ash sequel.
