First Charges Filed in Cardiff Riot Case

Following the deaths of Kyrees Sullivan and Harvey Evans in an e-bike crash on May 22, 2023, the first individuals charged with rioting have appeared in court. The crash occurred shortly after the teenagers were followed by a South Wales Police van, leading to tensions that escalated into a riot, resulting in injuries to dozens of officers and significant property damage. A total of 31 individuals have been charged, with 27 facing riot charges, including several minors aged between 15 and 17. The first group, including 18 defendants, was sent to Cardiff Crown Court for hearings scheduled on October 21. They were released on unconditional bail, with warnings of arrest for failure to appear. The Crown Prosecution Service emphasized the active nature of the criminal proceedings against these defendants.
