Maryland marks the third anniversary of its regulated sports betting, having generated over $116 million in revenue since its launch on December 9, 2021, with total wagers exceeding $10.2 billion. October 2024 was a record month, seeing over $593 million in bets, largely attributed to the performance of local NFL teams. Meanwhile, in New Jersey, the William Hill Sportsbook was fined $20,000 for improperly accepting bets on college basketball and boxing events after they had already concluded, a practice that occurred between February 2022 and April 2023. This error resulted in over $5,000 being incorrectly paid out to customers before most bets were voided. William Hill attributed the mistakes to its content supplier, OpenBet. The enforcement actions highlight ongoing regulatory challenges in the expanding sports betting landscape.
