Kelantan Proposes 100km Border Wall with Thailand

The Kelantan state government in Malaysia is proposing the construction of a 100-kilometer wall along its border with Thailand to tackle smuggling and illegal entries, particularly by young people seeking nightlife in Thailand. Deputy Menteri Besar Datuk Dr. Mohamed Fadzli Hassan emphasized the vastness of the border makes it challenging for security forces to maintain effective control. The proposal, initially suggested by Kelantan police chief Mohd Yusoff Mamat, aims to combat cross-border crime and mitigate flooding issues in the region. Local authorities have reported that many youths are illegally crossing the border for entertainment activities, raising concerns about drug use and safety. The plan must address individual land ownership complicating enforcement efforts along the border. The state government will formally present this proposal to the federal government for consideration.
