Aegean Airlines Reports Record Q1 Profit on 8% Passenger Traffic Rise
Aegean Airlines reported strong financial and operational results for the first quarter of 2025, traditionally the slowest travel period, with revenue rising 14% to €306 million and passenger numbers increasing 8% to 3.1 million. International traffic grew by 12%, and the airline expanded available seat kilometers by 11%, reaching 4.1 billion ASKs, while maintaining a stable load factor of 80.6%. EBITDA surged 32% to a record €43.8 million, marking the highest first-quarter performance in the company's history, and EBIT losses narrowed significantly to €2.6 million from €7.2 million the previous year. Net losses after tax also decreased substantially to €6.6 million, benefiting additionally from favorable currency exchange impacts on aircraft lease valuations. CEO Dimitris Gerogiannis highlighted the success of the growth strategy, especially the extension of the tourist season and increased winter frequencies on select international routes, underpinning the airline's improved operating intensity and liquidity, which stood strong at €796.1 million including the self-financed acquisition of a new A320neo aircraft. These results affirm Aegean's commitment to smoothing seasonality and expanding capacity, particularly on popular routes such as flights to Crete.
