Tesco Products Found Lacking in Key Ingredients

A BBC Panorama investigation has revealed that many Tesco products price-matched to Aldi contain lower proportions of key ingredients compared to their Aldi counterparts. For example, Tesco chicken nuggets contained 39% chicken versus Aldi's 60%, and Tesco's cottage pie had 18% beef compared to Aldi's 25%. The study found that 38 out of 122 Tesco products examined had at least five percentage points less of the main ingredient. Tesco defended its practices, stating that ingredient proportions do not necessarily equate to quality. Other major UK supermarkets also have price-match campaigns with Aldi, but no consistent ingredient discrepancies were found in their products. This investigation raises questions about the true value of Tesco’s price-matched items as the cost of living crisis drives consumers to seek cheaper alternatives.
