Florida Attorney Pleads Guilty to Bombing Attempts
Christopher Rodriguez, a 45-year-old attorney from Panama City, Florida, has pleaded guilty to attempting to bomb the Chinese embassy in Washington, D.C., in 2023 and successfully bombing a sculpture of Lenin and Mao outside Texas Public Radio in 2022. Rodriguez admitted to placing a backpack with 15 pounds of explosives near the Chinese embassy and shooting at it, although he missed. He also scaled a fence in San Antonio, placed explosives on a sculpture, and successfully detonated it by shooting from a nearby roof. Under his plea deal, Rodriguez faces a sentence of seven to ten years in prison, with sentencing scheduled for October 28. DNA evidence from a previous arrest in Los Angeles connected him to the embassy bombing attempt.
