Deputy PM Staffer Alleges Bullying Incident

Jo Tarnawsky, chief of staff to Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, claims she was ostracized from her job after raising allegations of bullying within her office. Tarnawsky stated that after discussing her concerns with Marles during a flight from Ukraine, she was told to seek alternative employment and was subsequently barred from her office, only allowed to enter with prior notice. She described the experience as 'devastating,' leading to severe mental health issues, including panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. Although she has not accused Marles of direct involvement in the alleged bullying, she has expressed feelings of isolation and distress since May. A spokesperson for Marles contested some of Tarnawsky's assertions but emphasized that her wellbeing has been a priority. The federal government has asserted its commitment to improving workplace culture and standards in Parliament House.
