Two historic pubs in England are undergoing significant renovations and preparing to reopen with modern amenities and community-focused offerings. The Famous King George in Oldham has reopened after a six-figure refurbishment that includes a state-of-the-art audio-visual system and multiple HD TVs, positioning it as a premier sports-watching venue and entertainment hub with a packed events schedule. Meanwhile, Gibsons at Micklegate Bar in York is set to reopen in mid-October following a £550,000 refurbishment by Heineken-owned Star Pubs, featuring a modern industrial interior, upgraded facilities, and a revamped courtyard garden. Gibsons will offer an extensive food and drink menu, including cask and craft ales, cocktails, and alcohol-free options, alongside live music, open mic nights, and themed events to serve workers, residents, students, and tourists. Operator Robin Atkinson will manage Gibsons, aiming to revive the pub as a local landmark and community hub.
