Two Idaho Firefighters Killed, One Injured in Canfield Mountain Ambush
In northern Idaho near Coeur d’Alene, two firefighters were killed and another wounded in an ambush by a shooter while responding to a brush fire on Canfield Mountain. The attack occurred shortly after crews arrived to battle the wildfire, leading to a temporary suspension of firefighting efforts due to active sniper fire. Authorities later found a deceased man with a firearm near the scene, believed to be the shooter, and subsequently lifted the shelter-in-place order. The wildfire, named the Nettleton Gulch Fire, is estimated to be between 15 and 20 acres and continues to burn in steep terrain, with additional firefighting resources being deployed. Officials, including Governor Brad Little, condemned the attack as a heinous assault and asked for prayers for the victims and their families. Investigations into the cause of the fire and the attack are ongoing as emergency personnel work to contain the blaze and ensure safety in the area.
