The MV Ruby, a cargo ship carrying 20,000 tons of ammonium nitrate, has docked at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, after facing multiple refusals from European ports due to its potentially dangerous cargo. The ship originally set sail from Kandalaksha, Russia, but suffered storm damage en route to Las Palmas, prompting a search for repairs. Local MP Sir Roger Gale reassured constituents that the cargo poses no threat and noted that the ship complies with UK regulations. Peel Ports Group confirmed that the port is equipped to handle hazardous materials and has implemented strict safety protocols for the unloading process. The ammonium nitrate aboard is significantly more than that involved in the 2020 Beirut explosion, raising public concern. However, the ship's management asserts that the cargo is safe in its current state.
