Poland Deports 63 Ukrainians, Belarusians After Warsaw Concert Riots
Following riots at a concert by Belarusian rapper Max Korzh in Warsaw, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced deportation proceedings against 63 individuals, including 57 Ukrainians and six Belarusians, due to their involvement in disorderly conduct and aggression. The concert saw violent clashes between attendees and security, with 109 people detained on charges including assault, trespassing, and possession of illegal substances and pyrotechnics. A key point of contention was the display of the red-and-black flag associated with the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), which Poland bans due to its links to the World War II-era massacre of ethnic Poles, although Ukrainians often view it as a symbol of resistance against Soviet oppression. Tusk condemned the riots and provocations but cautioned against rising anti-Ukrainian sentiments in Poland, warning that such division would be a historical crime and urged both nations to resist Russian provocations. The Polish government is investigating possible legal violations related to the display of totalitarian symbols at the event, while a Ukrainian individual who displayed the flag has publicly apologized. Amidst historical grievances, Poland continues to support Ukraine against Russian aggression, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and unity between the two countries.
