This Is Spinal Tap Keyboardist David Kaff Dies Aged 79
David Kaff, best known for his role as keyboardist Viv Savage in the 1984 cult classic film This Is Spinal Tap, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the age of 79. Kaff, born David Kaffinetti, was a founding member of the progressive rock band Rare Bird, which released five albums and scored a hit single with 'Sympathy' in the early 1970s. Besides his music career, including session work on Chuck Berry's The London Chuck Berry Sessions, Kaff gained lasting recognition for his portrayal of Viv Savage, whose memorable line in the film was "Have a good time… all the time." Kaff's final appearance with Spinal Tap was their 1984 Saturday Night Live performance, after which he departed from the group. His current band, Mutual of Alameda’s Wild Kingdom, mourned his death, highlighting his kind nature and quick wit. A sequel to This Is Spinal Tap, titled Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, is scheduled for release later this year.
