Putin admits Russian military faces weapons shortages despite increased production
President Vladimir Putin acknowledged that, despite a significant ramp-up in military production last year, Russia's armed forces continue to face shortages of key weapons, particularly drones and other advanced equipment. At a meeting of the state Military-Industrial Commission, Putin highlighted that while Russian troops have received over 4,000 armored vehicles, 180 warplanes and helicopters, and more than 1.5 million drones, there are still notable gaps in military supplies. He emphasized that almost all defense enterprises met or exceeded their production targets, but the demand on the front lines remains unmet, especially for drones, which are increasingly pivotal in modern warfare. Putin assured that efforts to further increase production are underway to address these deficiencies and maintain a technological edge. The ongoing shortages come as Russia continues its war in Ukraine and holds talks with the United States about the conflict's future. Russia has also supplemented its arsenal with imported equipment from countries like Iran and North Korea.
