Selangor Government Proposes Urine Screening for Concerts

In response to recent drug-related fatalities at a New Year’s Eve concert, the Selangor government is proposing urine screenings as part of the standard operating procedures (SOP) for concert attendees. State Local Government and Tourism Committee chairperson Ng Suee Lim emphasized the need for stricter guidelines, including scanning equipment to prevent prohibited materials from entering venues. The proposal will be discussed in an upcoming state executive council meeting, aiming to enhance safety protocols and prevent future incidents. Additionally, concerns were raised about the impact of potentially suspending concert permits on the Visit Selangor Year 2025 campaign, although Ng acknowledged that it would affect event organizers financially. The initiative reflects a serious commitment from local authorities to address drug abuse at public events and ensure attendee safety.
