A major international operation led by An Garda Síochána has resulted in the seizure of drugs valued at nearly €16 million and 11 arrests in Ireland, linked to the encrypted communication platform Ghost. This platform facilitated serious organized crime, including drug trafficking and money laundering, and had gained popularity due to its advanced security features that allowed users to communicate anonymously. Authorities from nine countries, including Europol and the FBI, collaborated in the operation, which involved searches at 27 premises across Dublin and eastern Ireland. Key seizures included 100 kilos of cocaine intercepted in a truck, as well as large quantities of heroin, cannabis, cash, and various electronic devices. The operation has highlighted the involvement of multiple Irish crime gangs, with significant links to the platform allegedly operated from Australia. Assistant Commissioner Justin Kelly emphasized the global nature of organized crime and the collaborative effort to dismantle such networks.
