India Tightens Border Protocols After Pahalgam Attack

Following a terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, India has significantly reduced the Beating Retreat ceremonies at Punjab border points—Attari, Hussainiwala, and Sadki. The BSF has suspended the traditional handshake with Pakistani commanders and keeps the border gates closed throughout the ceremonies, citing heightened security concerns. While the flag-lowering drill continues for the public, symbolic gestures of goodwill have been removed. India has also suspended passenger movement through the Attari Integrated Check Post and revoked all visas for Pakistani nationals except for limited medical emergencies. Security at the borders has been intensified with the deployment of quick response and anti-drone teams, and the Samjhauta Express and bus services remain suspended. These measures are part of a broader diplomatic and security response to increased cross-border tensions following the attack.
