T-Mobile Expands L4S 5G, Charter and Comcast Onboard

T-Mobile is expanding its L4S (Low Latency, Low Loss, Scalable Throughput) technology across its 5G network to enhance latency-sensitive applications like video calls, cloud gaming, and extended reality. L4S manages network congestion by signaling applications to adjust bit rates for smoother performance, and users do not need new devices or plans to benefit, though app support is required. T-Mobile remains the first major US wireless provider to implement L4S at scale, with AT&T and Verizon yet to announce similar upgrades. Notably, Charter Communications and Comcast will begin leveraging T-Mobile’s 5G network for nationwide business mobile services starting in 2026, which could further extend L4S benefits. This development underscores T-Mobile's leadership in 5G innovation and promises improved performance during periods of network congestion. The expansion is expected to drive more app developers to adopt the L4S standard.
