Blue Cross Blue Shield of Montana (BCBSMT) is under investigation following a major data breach that potentially exposed the personal and medical information of up to 462,000 customers, nearly one-third of Montana's population. The breach occurred between November 2024 and March 2025 and was linked to a third-party vendor, Conduent Business Services, which experienced unauthorized access to its systems between October 2024 and January 2025. Sensitive data compromised includes Social Security numbers, birth dates, addresses, medical records, billing information, and treatment details. BCBSMT has notified affected members and is offering one year of complimentary identity protection services, though state officials express concern over the delayed notification to regulators and the scale of the incident. Montana's Insurance and Securities Commissioner James Brown emphasized the severity of the breach and the agency's commitment to hold responsible parties accountable to protect consumers.
