Syngene Launches Third Women-in-STEM Cohort Across India
Syngene International Ltd., in partnership with the Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad (RICH) and Biocon Foundation, has launched the third cohort of its flagship scholarship, mentoring, and industry orientation program aimed at empowering women in STEM from tier two and three institutions in India. The program, now in its third year, supports 40 women selected through a rigorous process emphasizing academic merit, research aptitude, and socio-economic background, particularly focusing on those from low-income or underserved families. It offers structured mentorship, financial assistance, and hands-on research experience, culminating in project-based internships at leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology companies, and premier government research institutions such as CSIR–Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology. These internships are part of a broader development framework that includes technical seminars and industry exposure visits, designed to enhance research skills, professional networks, and inspire long-term STEM careers. Despite growing awareness of STEM careers, women from smaller cities face challenges like limited scientific exposure, financial constraints, and lack of mentors, which this program addresses directly. Over the past two years, more than 50 women have benefited from this initiative, which is recognized as a crucial regional model connecting talent to opportunities and fostering India's scientific and social progress.
