Derry City Signs Scottish Defender Bannon on Loan from Burton Albion

Derry City has secured defender Alex Bannon on a season-long loan from Burton Albion to bolster their defensive options. The 21-year-old Scot, who began his career at Queens Park with over 50 appearances, recently played for Airdrieonians on loan, contributing significantly to their playoff success. Manager Tiernan Lynch praised Bannon's versatility, noting his ability to play across several defensive and midfield positions and emphasized the competitive environment he brings to the squad. Bannon expressed enthusiasm for the move, valuing the opportunity to integrate fully with the team over the extended loan period through July 2026. This signing follows the recent acquisition of fellow Scot Adam Frizzell, with both players bringing experience from Scottish football to Derry City. The club is currently awaiting international clearance from the Scottish Football Association to finalize Bannon's registration.
