Mike Williamson Named New Carlisle United Manager

Carlisle United has appointed Mike Williamson as their new head coach following the sacking of Paul Simpson, marking a significant move as the club currently sits at the bottom of League Two after losing five of their first six matches. Williamson, who previously managed MK Dons, expressed enthusiasm about joining Carlisle, emphasizing a desire to implement an attacking style of play and foster unity with the fans. He is bringing along his coaching staff, including Ian Watson, Chris Bell, and Carl Magnay, to assist in the transition. This move comes after Carlisle met the release clause in Williamson's contract, despite MK Dons initially rejecting an approach for their coach. Williamson, a former Newcastle United player, is expected to make his managerial debut for Carlisle against Swindon Town this weekend. The club's owner is also looking to appoint a sporting director to support Williamson in his new role.
