Xi Jinping Praises Thailand’s Actions Against Scam Networks

During a meeting in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra pledged to combat the rising issue of scam networks that have emerged in Southeast Asia, particularly along the Thai-Myanmar border. These scams, often disguised as job offers, have resulted in the trafficking of individuals who are coerced into perpetrating fraud against unsuspecting victims globally, which has negatively impacted Thailand's reputation as a tourist destination. Xi praised Thailand for its strong measures against online scams and emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation in security and law enforcement between the two nations. In a proactive step, Thai authorities recently cut off electricity to several areas in Myanmar identified as hubs for these scam operations. The issue has gained urgency following high-profile incidents, including the rescue of Chinese actor Wang Xing from a cyberfraud center. Both leaders recognized the importance of collaboration to protect citizens and maintain tourism safety in Thailand.
