A 34-year-old man was shot dead by police in Sydney's southwest after allegedly attempting to stab a police officer in Middleton Grange. The officer, who was protected by his operational vest, was struck on the shoulder but uninjured. Despite being tasered, the man continued to pose a threat, leading to the officer firing two rounds. CPR was performed on the man until paramedics arrived, but he could not be revived. The incident is under investigation by a critical incident team and will also be subject to an independent review. Neighbors reported hearing the man's mother in distress after the shooting.
