Canada Invests $200M in Cedar LNG Project, First Indigenous Majority-Owned Facility

The Canadian government has announced a contribution of up to $200 million towards the Cedar LNG project, a collaboration between the Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corporation, which is set to become Canada's first Indigenous majority-owned floating liquefied natural gas facility. The project, which has a total price tag of approximately $5.96 billion, aims to produce 3.3 million tonnes of ultra-low-carbon LNG annually, significantly contributing to Canada's climate and trade diversification goals. Construction will create around 300 jobs and an additional 100 long-term operational positions, with a strong emphasis on Indigenous employment. The facility, which will be powered by clean hydroelectricity, is expected to commence operations by late 2028.
