Beanie Babies Billionaire's California Mansion Scene of Violent Home Invasion, Woman Comatose
Ty Warner, the billionaire CEO behind the Beanie Babies toy empire, was home during a violent break-in at his Montecito, California mansion, where a woman was brutally attacked and left comatose with a serious brain injury. The victim, Linda Malek-Aslanian, a 60-year-old financial services expert who previously worked for Warner's hotels, was severely beaten by Russell Maxwell Phay, a 42-year-old Nevada Army veteran and the suspect in the case. Phay broke into the residence claiming ownership, assaulted Malek-Aslanian, and barricaded himself in an upstairs bathroom before attempting to escape by jumping out of a window, after which he was apprehended by law enforcement. Authorities charged Phay with multiple felonies including attempted murder, burglary, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, and battery causing serious bodily injury; he has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail. Warner was unharmed during the incident and was able to contact authorities, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and investigators do not believe Phay had a personal connection to Warner. The event has raised concerns about security in affluent neighborhoods, highlighting the need for increased safety measures and awareness.
