Mastodon Enlists Nick Johnston for Spring 2025 North American Tour

Mastodon has enlisted Canadian guitarist Nick Johnston as their fill-in guitarist following the departure of longtime member Brent Hinds earlier this year, marking the first lineup change for the band in 25 years. Johnston, known for his instrumental rock and progressive style, has an impressive background touring and recording with acts like Periphery, Polyphia, Intervals, and Between the Buried and Me, as well as releasing several solo albums. His debut with Mastodon took place on May 8, 2025, in Chesterfield, Missouri, and he is expected to join them for their spring North American tour, including a co-headlining run with Coheed and Cambria. Although Mastodon has yet to officially confirm whether Johnston is a permanent replacement or a temporary touring member, he is filling the role during their current tour schedule. The band expressed gratitude for Hinds' 25 years with Mastodon and is working on new material without him.
