Ilya Sutskever Starts Safe Superintelligence Inc. with Focus on AI Safety

Ilya Sutskever, former Chief Scientist and co-founder of OpenAI, has launched a new AI company called Safe Superintelligence Inc. (SSI), aimed at developing 'superintelligence' safely. The company, co-founded with Daniel Levy and Daniel Gross, intends to focus exclusively on building AI systems that surpass human intelligence without compromising safety. This move follows Sutskever's controversial attempt to oust OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and subsequent resignation amid concerns about OpenAI prioritizing commercial goals over safety. SSI aims to avoid distractions from management and product cycles, ensuring its focus remains on safety and rapid capabilities advancement. The startup will operate from Palo Alto and Tel Aviv, leveraging deep technical talent from these regions.
