In a tragic incident on Sept. 6, a 68-year-old woman died after running a stop sign and crashing her car into a school bus in Sumter County, Florida, which was carrying 14 students. The woman succumbed to her injuries days later at a hospital, while the bus driver was also hospitalized, though her condition remains unknown. Separately, a Naperville woman, Lauren Williams, 34, was arrested on Sept. 9 for allegedly crashing a school bus transporting special needs children into a junction box while under the influence of alcohol. Williams, who exhibited signs of impairment, had just dropped off her last passengers when the accident occurred; fortunately, no children were on board at the time. Prosecutors charged her with aggravated DUI, and a judge denied her pre-trial release, with her next court appearance set for Oct. 7. Authorities emphasized the seriousness of her behavior, which endangered both the lives of children and the public.
