Osage Beach police officer Phylicia Carson, 33, died in a high-speed chase early Saturday morning while pursuing a speeding suspect, Christopher Aaron Bishop Wehmeyer, 23, on Highway 54 in Camden County, Missouri. Carson lost control of her vehicle, which skidded off the road, hit a tree, and caught fire, resulting in her death at the scene. Wehmeyer, who was apprehended shortly after crashing his own vehicle, has been charged with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention of a motor vehicle causing death, a Class A felony under Missouri's new Valentine's Law. Carson leaves behind her husband and six children. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is handling the investigation, and Wehmeyer is being held without bond in Camden County Jail.
