Lawrence City Approves Design for Mass. Street

Lawrence city commissioners unanimously approved a $494,915 agreement with Trekk Design Group to redesign a portion of Massachusetts Street, which will reduce car lanes from four to three and add protected bike lanes. The design includes one lane for northbound and southbound traffic, a turning lane, and five-foot-wide bike lanes separated by a three-foot median. Construction is estimated at $5.6 million, with $3.37 million already secured from state grants. Meanwhile, Columbus City Council launched the Bike Plus plan to develop 487 miles of new bikeways to accommodate the city's growth and promote micromobility. This long-overdue plan aims to reduce car dependence and enhance public safety, with prioritized bikeways set for development in the next five years. Both initiatives reflect a growing emphasis on sustainable transportation options in their respective cities.
