Chusovitina Wins Silver on 50th Birthday in Tashkent

Uzbek gymnast Oksana Chusovitina marked her 50th birthday by earning a silver medal in the vault at the 2025 Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Tashkent, an exceptional feat given the typical retirement age in the sport. Chusovitina, who has competed in eight consecutive Olympic Games for three different countries, missed a record-tying ninth appearance at the Paris 2024 Olympics due to injury. Her silver in Tashkent adds to a successful 2025 season, which includes gold at the Baku World Cup and bronze at the Cottbus World Cup. Inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2017, she is the only actively competing member. Her career spans over three decades, with highlights including an Olympic gold in 1992 and numerous world and Asian medals.
