Police Chase in Warren Kills Uninvolved Elderly Woman

A 71-year-old woman was killed when a suspect fleeing Warren police crashed into her vehicle and another car at the intersection of 9 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue on the evening of May 24. Police had initially attempted to stop the driver of a black Chrysler 300 for reckless driving, but the suspect fled, prompting a high-speed pursuit. The collision critically injured the woman, who later died at the hospital, while the other vehicle's occupants were not seriously hurt. After the crash, the suspect tried to escape on foot but was apprehended and taken into custody. The Warren Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating, and the intersection was closed for several hours.
