Senate Intelligence Committee Votes on Tulsi Gabbard's DNI Nomination
The Senate Finance Committee has voted along party lines to advance Robert F. Kennedy's nomination as the next Secretary of Health and Human Services, with all 14 Republican members supporting him, while 13 Democrats opposed. In a separate development, Republican Senator Todd Young of Indiana announced his support for Tulsi Gabbard's nomination as Director of National Intelligence, making him the final Republican to back her after initial hesitation. Both Young and Senator Susan Collins had previously expressed concerns following Gabbard's hearing but later shifted their stance. Gabbard's nomination has also received backing from over a dozen current and retired military leaders, who praised her capabilities and character in letters to the Senate Intelligence Committee. The committee is set to vote on Gabbard's nomination soon, and her path to confirmation may depend on garnering support from Democrats, as she currently has none. Young emphasized his commitment to national security in his endorsement of Gabbard, following pressure from her supporters, including tech mogul Elon Musk.
