Minnesota High School Cancels Segregated Field Trip After Civil Rights Complaint

Highland Park Senior High School in Minnesota canceled a field trip intended exclusively for students who 'identify as a person of color' following a civil rights complaint. The complaint, filed by retired professor Mark Perry, argued that the trip violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act by discriminating against white students. The trip aimed to expose participants to careers in digital marketing but faced backlash for its racially restrictive nature. Perry emphasized that any form of discrimination is illegal, regardless of the intentions behind it. After he alerted the school, it promptly canceled the event. Perry also called for a review of the school's civil rights policies to prevent similar issues in the future.
